WOMEN, POWER AND POLICY
This years plenary session will focus on unleashing
the power that we, as women, have to affect change on the local
level. We will discuss how to inform, educate and agitate on issues
of concern in our communities from the education system,
health care services, and ballot initiatives to pending legislation
and needed legislation.
Now is not the time to despair; rather it is a time to think back
to how in the past we have been agents for change. We gathered our
information, spoke out on the issues, and organized meetings to
explain our views. We marched, we lobbied and we agitated until
we achieved our goals. We have never relinquished our power to bring
about change.
When Dr. Martin Luther King accepted the Nobel Peace Prize, he talked
about the Beloved Community in which all people could
have a decent life and live together in peace and security. As he
stated in his acceptance speech, I have the audacity to believe
that people everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies,
education and culture for their minds, dignity, equality and freedom
for their spirits.
This years Womens Conference will provide the tools,
inspiration and plans for us to strive toward the goals of the Beloved
Community. We have got the power and now we must use the power.
The future is in our hands! Please plan to attend this years
conference.
