Scholarship Criteria

APPLICANTS FOR $500.00 SCHOLARSHIP
Students, including CBTU members, who have or are about to graduate from high school and have applied to or have already been accepted by a college or university, may apply by having their parent, grandparent, guardian or themselves being a CBTU member in good chapter standing, submit their name. The application form on the front of this sheet must be completed. The Chapter Chairperson’s signature is required to attest to the member submitting the applicant’s name being in good chapter standing. The School officials signature is required to attest to the applicant having graduated from high school, or is about to graduate and has applied to a college or university and has been accepted or anticipates acceptance. The applicant must provide proof of application to a college or university and proof of acceptance, if received prior to application deadline, (must be provided prior to a check being cut for the winner). The applicant must provide two (2) letters of reference -- one (1) from a school official, Principal, Guidance Counselor, and one (1) from a Community person, other than a family member. THE APPLICANT MUST SUBMIT A 500-WORD ESSAY, TYPED AND DOUBLED SPACED ON "HOW THE UNION AND/OR THE LABOR MOVEMENT HAS INFLUENCED ME."

THE COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM, WITH ALL REQUIRED SIGNATURES, LETTERS OF REFERENCE AND PROOF OF APPLICATIONS TO AND/OR ACCEPTANCE BY A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY MUST BE RECEIVED ON OR BEFORE APRIL 11, 2003. MAIL TO: CBTU SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE, P.O. BOX 66268, WASHINGTON, D.C. 20035-6268.

Students, including CBTU members, who are currently enrolled in a college or university, have completed their freshman year, with a minimum 2.5 grade point average, may apply by having their parent, grandparent, guardian or themselves being a CBTU member in good chapter standing, submit their name. The application form on the front of this set must be completed. The Chapter Chairperson’s signature is required to attest to the member submitting the applicant’s name being in good chapter standing. The School Officials signature is required to attest to the applicant being currently enrolled in a college or university with a minimum 2.5 grade point average and that a certified transcript has been requested to be sent to CBTU. The applicant must provide proof of enrollment and that a certified transcript has been requested to certify the 2.5 minimum grade point average. The applicant must provide two (2) letters of reference, one (1) from a school official, college or university Registrar, College Counselor and one (1) from a Community person, other than a family member.
