2009 National  Women's Conference

“Leadership in Action”

This year’s conference will focus on leadership. As trade union women, we have greater access to education, information and many other tools through our unions and CBTU, than many  other workers.  We need to take full advantage of these opportunities that prepare us for greater responsibilities and great rewards.

We watched as history was made in 2008 culminating in the election of our first African American President Barack Obama and standing by his side was a beautiful African American Woman Michelle Obama.  There were also many other phenomenal women who were active organizing, speaking, planning and providing spiritual leadership during the historic campaign and the exciting convention.  Other women were making strides in politics and business; African American Women stepped up and got the job done.  We are inviting a few of these women to talk to us about being good and effective leaders, how to prepare and how when the opportunity comes, to move out of our comfort zone and accept the mantle of leadership, even when it presents great challenges.  We will also have a discussion about how important it is extend a helping hand to others, especially our youth.

Nominations are now open for the Addie Wyatt Award; the deadline for submission is March 1. 2009.  Chapter awards and The Trail Blazer Roster names are due by May 1, 2009.

Our annual newsletter will go to print on March 1, 2009. Articles concerning your women’s committee activities, congratulations to your chapter members, and other information of interest is welcomed and should be sent to me before the deadline.  ‘

Luncheon tickets will cost $50 per person and you may purchase them with your convention registration.  We will be in the south, so you know we will have a great meal.

We look forward to seeing you in Atlanta.
