Don’t pay much attention to premature predictions like the fighting spirit in black workers has been sapped or George W. Bush will stay in the White House longer than his daddy.

When the 1,400 delegates left CBTU’s 32nd International Convention in San Francisco, May 22-26, they left energized, united and more determined than ever to look power in the eye and go toe-to-toe for justice.

CBTU President Bill Lucy set a defiant tone for the convention, which was held in the beautiful Hyatt Regency Embarcadero. He said, “We are not intimidated by President Bush’s high poll ratings or his corporate political contributors. Bush can be beat. And we [CBTU] will not retreat from holding our allies in Congress accountable for advancing a real agenda for working families.

” Throughout the five-day convention, a confident atmosphere fueled passionate speeches, packed workshops and constant displays of CBTU pride everywhere – jerseys, jackets, bags caps and banners.

The Northern California CBTU Chapter, which served as convention host chapter, was efficient and tireless, warm and gracious. From chapter president Antonio Christian to every chapter volunteer, they set a new standard of excellence that future host chapters of CBTU conventions can aspire to match. A big shout out to the Northern California Chapter!
